We’re here to help people have the conversations that matter.
Created by Pasifika people, for Pasifika people.
Our relationships are at the heart of our Pasifika families and communities. They shape how we love, connect, support one another, and grow together.
But sometimes, the conversations that could help us build healthier relationships are the ones we don't always know how to start.
That's where Moto'ofa comes in.
Who is Moto'ofa?
We are Jessica and Kalolaine, a Tongan mother and daughter who created Moto’ofa to help our people have the conversations we wish we’d had sooner.
Moto’ofa was born from a dream — a message given to our family in a little village in Tonga, carried across the ocean, and planted into something real.
Through our own experiences, we’ve come to understand just how powerful honest conversations can be. The conversations we’ve had, the things we’ve learned, and the tools we’ve created have helped us grow, reflect, and build healthier relationships in our own lives.
We believe in the power of testimony — that our stories matter, and that sharing what we’ve walked through can help someone else feel seen, understood, and less alone.
Now, we want to share that with others.
Why We Do What We Do
Our work is informed by research into domestic and family violence within Pasifika communities in Australia. We’ve explored how culture, faith, migration, identity, and community intersect with our experiences of relationships, harm, and silence.
This research has helped us better understand the challenges our communities face, while also recognising the strengths, values, and connections that exist within our communities.
At Moto’ofa, we want to create resources that help bring these conversations into our homes, our families, our friendships, and our communities.
We want to create space to ask questions, reflect on what we’ve learned, recognise what may be causing harm, and think about what we want to carry forward for the generations to come.
